What is on the shelf
Glucosamine and chondroitin. Usually sold together as tablets. Glucosamine is most often made from the shells of shrimp, crab and lobster, and chondroitin from animal cartilage. Check the source on the label if you have a shellfish allergy.
Fish oil. Pressed from oily fish such as anchovy, sardine and mackerel, and sold for its omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA.
Cod liver oil. From the liver of the cod. It carries omega-3 along with vitamins A and D, so check the label before you take it with a multivitamin, and ask your doctor before taking it in pregnancy.
Turmeric and curcumin. Turmeric is the spice. Curcumin is the compound in it that supplements are measured by, and on its own it is poorly absorbed. Turmeric XL is curcumin formulated for absorption, and it promotes a healthy inflammatory response.
Green-lipped mussel. A shellfish, Perna canaliculus, farmed in the Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand. Omega XL is made with PCSO-524, a patented lipid extract of it carrying about 30 free fatty acids, including EPA, DHA, ETA and OTA. It is made to help support joint mobility.
