The active ingredient is PCSO-524, a lipid extract of the green-lipped mussel, farmed in the Marlborough Sounds at the top of New Zealand's South Island. It carries about 30 free fatty acids, including EPA, DHA, ETA and OTA, and the oil is drawn out with carbon dioxide under pressure rather than a chemical solvent.
Heat is what makes this difficult. The mussels are crushed shell and all with no heat applied at any point, because heat destroys the marine lipids the whole process exists to capture. It is the reason a plate of steamed mussels contains none of them.
The extract is suspended in extra virgin olive oil with d-alpha tocopherol, which is vitamin E, then formulated and bottled in Fort Lauderdale by Great HealthWorks. From there it comes here, to a pharmacy.
